Herzlichen Glückwunsch an den UP-Teampiloten Peter Hilger, der beim World XContest 2017 den ersten Platz in der Sportklasse belegt hat. Peter hat im vergangenen November 6 Monsterflüge in Brasilien geflogen und das ganze Jahr über die Top-Position gehalten. Er flog den UP Trango XC-3 und Trango X-Race.

A huge congratulations to UP Team Pilot Peter Hilger for finishing first in sports class in the 2017 World XContest. Peter flew 6 monster flights in Brazil last November, and held the top position all year. He was flying the UP Trango XC-3 and Trango X-Race.

Namaste. Nothing is going on. We have been waiting all day for a ranger to leave the area. I have no idea what will happen now. At noon there was chabatte (bread), rice, vegetables and spicy vegetable soup. We need patience!
...The fun has cost us 250 dollars. The humor is on the ground. We are now in Gangotri town. As encouragement, there's pizza. So, after garlic soup, pizza, Mango-Lassi and Pancakes with Nutella we are seeing the world differently again, only beer was missing...

Namaste. Hier geht nichts voran. Warten schon den ganzen Tag auf einen Ranger damit wir hier weg kommen. Keine Ahnung, wie es jetzt weiter geht (oder Keine Ahnung, was das wird). Mittags gab es Chabatte (Brot), Reis, Gemüse und scharfe Gemüsesuppe. Hier ist Geduld gefragt!
...Der Spaß hat uns 250 Dollar gekostet. Stimmung am Boden. Sind jetzt in Gangotri town. Zur Ermunterung gibt's Pizza.

This morning we warmed ourselves up in the sun, and repaired equipment.  Unfortunately, my solar panel is broken ...
...A bit later in the day we were caught at the checkpoint to the national park.  We are detained with a praying priest in a room without windows. Passports seized, but at least there should be food!
... We had a delicious Hindu dinner! In the national park flying is not allowed and the border to China is close. When we leave here, we have to take the bus back to the South West and fly around the area. All the people have been very nice to us here, despite the circumstances!

Wir wärmen uns in der Morgensonne und flicken Material. Leider ist mein Solarpanel endgültig kaputt...
...Jetzt sind wir gefangen am Checkpoint zum Nationalpark, mit betendem Priester in Zimmer ohne Fenster. Pässe beschlagnahmt, aber immerhin soll es Essen geben!
...Haben ordentliches Abendessen auf hinduistisch genossen, abgefahren! Im Nationalpark ist kein Fliegen erlaubt und die Grenze zu China ist nah. Wenn wir hier wieder rauskommen, fahren wir mit dem Bus zurück nach Südwesten und umfliegen das Gebiet weiträumig. Alle sind hier sehr nett, trotz der Umstände!

A long flight practically until sunset, but unfortunately little wood found for fire and cooking. Our feet are ice cold, now off into the sleeping bag to warm up. Tonight I'll dream of Bavarian style roast pork with dumplings! Good night!

Langer Flug praktisch bis Sonnenuntergang, aber leider wenig Holz für Feuer und Suppe gefunden. Die Füsse sind eiskalt, jetzt ab in den Schlafsack zum Aufwärmen. Heute nacht träume ich von Schweinsbraten mit Knödeln! Gute Nacht!

Good morning, we have reached the first trip target! Now we go to the Garhwal to Gangotri and if possible pass the Shivling over a 6000m pass ... Then over complex terrain to the border of Nepal in Dharcula. It will be exciting today with the large Kullu valley crossing.
Everything completed: showered, laundry washed, solar panel repaired, legend visited (John Silvester)!

Guten Morgen, wir haben das erste etappenziel erreicht! Jetzt geht es weiter ins garhwal nach Gangotri und wenn möglich am Shivling vorbei über einen 6000er pass...dann über komplexes Gelände zur Grenze nach Nepal in Dharcula. Spannend wird es gleich heute über die grosse talquerung bei kullu.
Alles erledigt: Geduscht, Wäsche gewaschen, Solarpanel reparieren lassen, Legende besucht (John Silvester)!

We made a nice flight from Rohtang pass to Bir, 85km with vultures. We're happy and we met at the Biling take off after an epic ride, from the backyard of the Himalayan range to the front end of India. Bir is like Bassano...

 Schöner Flug von Rohtang nach Bir, 85km begleitet von Geiern. Nach einem epischen Flug vom Hinterland des Himalaya bis zum vorderen Ende Indiens haben wir uns am Take off Billing wieder getroffen. Bir ist fast so wie Bassano ...

 Good morning, we are now in Qilong. From there we will take the bus to the Rohtang pass and try to take off from Snow Point ...

 Guten Morgen, wir sind jetzt gerade in Qilong. Von dort aus fahren wir mit dem Bus auf den Rohtang Pass und versuchen vom Snow Point aus zu starten...

I am in the village of Chikka and have experienced great hospitality here. Unfortunately I ripped my jacket and glider on the Shingga La Pass, due to strong wind. I have repaired them with sticky cloth, and am waiting for better conditions.

Basti has flown to Keylong and landed there. That is not allowed. What he did not know is that he landed 200m from to the police station. As he took off in Padum (other district), he did not have to pay 10 dollars penalty, but do a 10 doller donation, and he got his glider back. The negotiations took a whole day, so it was not bad that I arrived later. My bus trip from the pass was so adventurous that I do not want more bus rides on the mountain roads!

Ich bin im Dorf Chikka und habe dort tolle Gastfreundschaft erlebt. Leider zuviel Wind am Shingga La Pass wo ich mir bei einem Startversuch meine Jacke und den Schirm eingerissen habe, konnte aber alles gut geflickt werden.

Der Basti ist ja nach Keylong geflogen und dort gelandet. Das darf man nicht. Was er nicht wusste, ist, dass er 200m neben der Polizeistation gelandet ist. Nachdem er aber in Padum (anderer Distrikt) gestartet war, musste er nicht 10 Dollar Strafe zahlen, sondern eine Spende von 10 Dollar machen, woraufhin man ihm den Schirm wieder gegeben hat... die Verhandlungen haben einen ganzen Tag gedauert, also war es gar nicht schlimm, dass Boxi erst später kam. Und die Busfahrt auf dem Pass war so abenteuerlich, dass keiner mehr Lust auf weitere Busfahrten auf den Bergstraßen hatte! 

 Today we lost sight of each other again...  I'm here eating a "dinner for one".   I'll stay where I am tonight and sleep near the pass.  I'm hoping we can team up again tomorrow.

Heute haben wir uns wieder mal aus den Augen verloren...da gibt es nur ein "dinner for one". Ich bleibe heute ,wo ich bin, in der Nähe des Passes, und komme morgen nach!
